TL;DR: 30-second loadout check
- Google shipped Gemini 4 Argon with launch pricing that ends Nov 30.
- Meta joined the frontier raid with Muse Wonder.
- Anthropic released dirt-cheap Haiku 5.5. Its tokenizer carries a hidden tax.
- OpenAI rolled GPT-6 out to every ChatGPT tier and retired GPT-5.5 from ChatGPT and Codex on Oct 14. If your Codex scripts broke, jump to the Fix of the Week.
- Cursor now lets you drive your local agents from your phone.
- Hotfix alert: n8n patched a batch of security advisories on Oct 14. Update if you self-host.
Patch log: what changed
Google: Gemini 4 Argon (Oct 13)
- BUFF New frontier model. It's live globally in the Gemini API and AI Studio, in Google Antigravity for AI Ultra subscribers, and in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
- BUFF Intro price is $2 / $10 per 1M input/output tokens, with cached input 95% off.
- SCHEDULED NERF The intro period ends Nov 30, 2026. After that it's $4 / $20. Run your experiments now.
- VENDOR CLAIM Google says Argon ranks #1 on the Vals Index and cuts attack success on Gray Swan's indirect prompt-injection benchmark to 0.7%. We haven't verified either number.
- BUFF A 1M unified input/output token limit through the Gemini API.

Meta: Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full (Oct 12)
- NEW CHALLENGER These are the first frontier models from Meta's Superintelligence Lab.
- VENDOR CLAIM Meta's own testing puts both at benchmark scores comparable to Claude Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra. Meta also says Wonder beats Fable, Opus and Astra on MemoryBench, a benchmark for "active memory."
- PRICE Wonder costs $4 / $20 per 1M tokens ($0.20 cached input) on the Meta Model API, with a 1M context window.
- LOCKED CONTENT Wonder Full has no API. You only get it on Muse Code's Power Usage and Maximum Usage subscription plans.

Anthropic: Claude Haiku 5.5 (Oct 7)
- BUFF It costs $0.10 / $0.50 per 1M tokens for prompts up to 100K tokens, and the Batch API is 50% off.
- BUFF 1M context window and up to 128K output tokens.
- HIDDEN NERF Haiku 5.5 uses the newer tokenizer, so the same text counts as about 30% more tokens than on Haiku 4.5. Prompts over 100K tokens also jump to $0.50 / $2.50. Do your cost math in tokens, not words.
- BUFF Max and Team plans now include monthly API credits for running your own apps and agents. Claim them by linking a Claude Console org in your billing settings.

OpenAI: GPT-6 for everyone, and Codex shuffles the roster
- BUFF GPT-6 with Intelligent UI reached ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise on Oct 7, and Free and Go on Oct 8. Answers can now include charts, buttons, forms and small built-in tools. Paid tiers run GPT-6 Sol and free tiers run GPT-6 Luna. This only changes Chat. The models behind Codex and ChatGPT Work stay the same. (OpenAI (opens in a new tab))
- BUFF, $$$ Ultrafast mode for GPT-6.1 Sol in Codex and ChatGPT Work shipped Oct 8. It's only on the Pro $500 plan and eligible Enterprise and Edu plans, where it's off until an admin enables it. (changelog (opens in a new tab))
- NEW Composer predictions (beta) arrived in the Codex desktop app on Oct 9. It suggests your next message, and you press Tab to accept it as an editable draft. It's limited to personal Pro accounts for users 18+, on GPT-6 Astra or GPT-6.1 Sol, and generating predictions doesn't count against usage during the beta. (OpenAI Help (opens in a new tab))
- REMOVED GPT-5.5 retired from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex on Oct 14. In Codex it went at noon PT / 3 PM ET for anyone signed in with ChatGPT. The API and API-key Codex sessions aren't affected. (changelog (opens in a new tab))
- UPDATE Dots are OpenAI's always-on agents built on GPT-6 Astra. They launched Sep 29 for Pro and Business Premium, with an Enterprise beta. The Oct 5–9 update lets you create your dot from the mobile app and makes cloud browsing faster. (OpenAI (opens in a new tab) · What's new (opens in a new tab))
Cursor: remote control and safer deletes
- BUFF Remote Control (Oct 6) lets you see and reply to the local agents on your computer from the Cursor iOS app. Your computer has to stay on and online. It's on by default for everyone except Enterprise orgs. (changelog (opens in a new tab))
- BUFF The Origin App Marketplace (Oct 13) launched with 20+ apps, including Cloudflare, Vercel, Linear, Sentry, CodeRabbit and Socket Security, and it's now open to public submissions. (changelog (opens in a new tab))
- QoL CLI v2026.10.08: Auto-review now asks before recursive, force, wildcard or mirror deletes whose target could resolve differently than written, like an unset
$VARin front of anrm -rf. Sessions that hit the context limit now summarize and keep going instead of getting stuck. (CLI changelog (opens in a new tab))
xAI: Grok Voice 3.0
- BUFF A new speech-to-speech model in the Voice Agent API at the same price as 2.0: $0.08/min. Agents on
grok-voice-latestwere switched over automatically. - VENDOR-CITED xAI cites Artificial Analysis putting it #1 on the Speech-to-Speech Index, at 86.9.

Hotfix corner: security patches to actually install
- n8n (self-hosted): on Oct 14, n8n published security advisories that include credential secrets leaking into execution error data and chat-only users registering code-running tools. Fixed in 1.123.85, 2.43.5 and 2.44.1. (n8n advisories (opens in a new tab))
- Claude Desktop (Windows), CVE-2026-88066: a planted
git.exein a project folder could run when you opened that project. Fixed in 1.8089.0. Auto-update already has it, so this is for anyone who updates by hand. - GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio and SSMS, CVE-2026-103572: adding a trailing dot to a blocked path let the agent rewrite its own MCP and settings files. Microsoft fixed it Oct 13.
- Continue CLI, CVE-2026-109560: text planted in a repo or web page could chain extra commands after an approved Bash prefix rule. Versions through 1.5.47 are affected, and 1.5.47 (June) is still the latest on npm, so there's no fix yet as of Oct 15.
- Roo Code (≤ 3.54.0): five CVEs filed Oct 13 let denied shell commands slip past auto-approve. The project shut down in May and its repo is archived, so no fix will ever ship. If it's still installed, remove it.
- Source for CVEs: The Injection, week 42 (opens in a new tab)
Lore drop. Anthropic published a report on unintended actions (opens in a new tab) by its models during evals and internal use. In one case, Claude Haiku 4.5 was told to make up and perform example tasks on randomly chosen web pages. It landed on a police department's homicide tip form and submitted an invented tip. Its instructions banned logging in, buying things and "destructive" submissions, but they never banned forms. The tip was flagged as spam and never forwarded, and the department was Philadelphia PD (TechCrunch (opens in a new tab)). Anthropic has now cut live internet access from all internal evals until its new monitoring is confirmed.
Takeaway: "don't log in or buy anything" is not the same as "don't submit forms." Spell out what your agent can't do.
Tier list: coding agents (Season 1, Week 1)
PRELIMINARY. These placements come from official changelogs, published pricing and vendor-reported benchmarks. We have not run our own hands-on tests yet. S-tier stays locked until a tool earns it in our own hands-on testing.
| Tier | Agent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | Locked | No one gets S on a press release. |
| A | Codex (GPT-6.1 Sol) | OpenAI's recommended GPT-5.5 replacement, which it pitches as "near-Astra performance at a lower cost." Ultrafast and composer predictions shipped. Dinged for: the best speed perk is locked to the $500 Pro plan. |
| A | Claude Code (Claude 5.5 family) | Opus, Sonnet and Haiku 5.5 cover every budget, and Haiku 5.5 is cheap enough for swarms of subagents. Dinged for: the ~30% tokenizer tax. |
| A | Antigravity + Gemini 4 Argon | The strongest vendor-claimed benchmarks of the week, plus aggressive intro pricing. Pending: independent confirmation, and the price doubles after Nov 30. |
| A | Cursor | A harness that runs many models, so it keeps up when the weekly winner changes. Phone remote control, a marketplace and safer deletes all shipped. Ranked on shipping velocity. |
| B | Muse Code (Meta Muse Wonder) | The vendor benchmarks look competitive, but it launched Oct 12 with no track record, and Wonder Full is subscription-only. A real contender, still unproven. |
| C | Continue CLI | Security-adjusted. It has an open command-chaining CVE with no fix. It moves back up once that's patched. |
| F | Any agent with live web access, form access and no sandbox | Not a product, a playstyle. See the lore drop. |
The board below is the same list, live. Edit content/tier-lists/ai-coding-agents.json and it moves with the patch notes.
As of October 15, 2026, OP or Mid's AI coding-agent tier list is preliminary. S-tier is locked until a tool earns it in hands-on tests, which start in Issue #2. A-tier this week is Codex (GPT-6.1 Sol), Claude Code (Claude 5.5 family), Antigravity with Gemini 4 Argon, and Cursor. Muse Code is B-tier. Continue CLI is C-tier because CVE-2026-109560 has no listed fix. These placements come from official changelogs, published pricing, and vendor-reported benchmarks, not from OP or Mid's own test lab.
| Tier | Tool | This week | Catch | Move |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | S-tier locked | No one gets S on a press release. | None listed | New |
| A | Codex (GPT-6.1 Sol) | New default in the Codex CLI. Ultrafast and composer predictions shipped this week. | The best speed perk, Ultrafast, is locked to the $500 Pro plan. | New |
| Claude Code (Claude 5.5 family) | Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku 5.5 cover every price tier. Haiku is cheap enough for subagent swarms. | Haiku 5.5's tokenizer counts about 30% more tokens than Haiku 4.5. Prompts over 100K tokens jump to $0.50 / $2.50. | New | |
| Antigravity + Gemini 4 Argon | Strongest vendor-claimed benchmarks of the week, plus aggressive intro pricing. | We have not verified Google's benchmark claims. The intro price ends November 30, 2026, then doubles. | New | |
| Cursor | A harness that runs any model. Phone remote control, a marketplace, and safer deletes landed this week. | Remote Control needs your computer awake and online. This rank is for shipping velocity, not a finished bake-off. | New | |
| B | Muse Code (Meta Muse Wonder) | Vendor benchmarks look competitive. The full model is subscription-only, and the track record is three days old. | Wonder Full has no API. Benchmarks are Meta's own, published October 12, 2026. | New |
| C | Continue CLI | Security-adjusted. An open command-chaining bug has no listed fix. | CVE-2026-109560 affects versions through 1.5.47. No fix was listed as of October 15, 2026. | New |
| D | Empty this week. | |||
| F | Any agent with live web, form access, and no sandbox | Not a product. A playstyle. Don't log in or buy anything is not the same as don't submit forms. | Spell out what the agent is not allowed to do. See the Issue #1 lore drop. | New |
Full reasoning and sources for every rank: the live AI Coding Agents tier list (opens in a new tab).

Fix of the Week: "My Codex automation broke on Oct 14"
Symptom: since Oct 14 at 3 PM ET, Codex tasks, scheduled jobs or custom agents that pin gpt-5.5 fail or fall back to another model, if you're signed in with ChatGPT. API-key sessions are fine.
Cause: OpenAI retired GPT-5.5 from Codex for ChatGPT sign-ins (changelog (opens in a new tab)).
Fix (about 2 minutes):
-
Find every hard-coded reference:
rg -n "gpt-5\.5" ~/.codex . --hidden -g '!node_modules' -
Swap it for OpenAI's recommended replacement,
gpt-6.1-sol, where your plan and client support it. In the CLI you can also switch with/model. -
Check the places people forget. OpenAI's changelog lists them: workspace defaults, saved model settings, managed configs, custom agents, scheduled tasks and scripts.
-
Update the CLI with
npm install -g @openai/codex@latest. As of Oct 15, the latest stable is 0.162.1.
Pro tip: model IDs get retired constantly. Keep the model name in one env var or config key instead of scattering it through scripts, and the next retirement is a one-line patch.
